Dentistry under Sedation

Dentistry under Sedation at Diestel Dental Group, Hong Kong

Dental treatment under sedation (Monitored Anaesthesia Care) for anxious patients — relaxed and comfortable, while you stay conscious and breathe on your own.

What it is

Sedation, or Monitored Anaesthesia Care (MAC), helps very anxious patients relax through treatment. Unlike general anaesthesia, you remain conscious and breathe on your own, but feel calm and comfortable.

When it helps

It suits patients who find dental treatment stressful, have a strong gag reflex, or are having longer or more involved procedures.

Safety

Sedation is provided with appropriate monitoring. Your dentist will review your health and explain how to prepare and what to expect on the day.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be asleep?
MAC is not general anaesthesia — you stay conscious and breathing on your own, but deeply relaxed. Many patients remember little of the procedure.
Is sedation safe?
It is carried out with appropriate monitoring and after a review of your medical history. Your dentist will discuss any considerations with you.
Can I go home the same day?
Yes, though you will need time to recover and someone to accompany you home. We will give you clear pre- and post-treatment instructions.

Care for this treatment is available across our five Hong Kong clinics.
