What are dentures?

Dentures are custom-made replacements for missing teeth and the surrounding tissue. As well as restoring a natural appearance, they help you chew and speak more comfortably and support the neighbouring teeth by stopping them from drifting. A straightforward denture can often be completed in about a week.

Types of dentures

• Full dentures: replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw when no natural teeth remain.
• Partial dentures: fill the gaps where some natural teeth remain, clipping around them.
• Flexible dentures: a lightweight, comfortable type of partial denture with no metal clasps.
• Removable dentures (sometimes called false teeth) are taken out for easy cleaning; implant-supported options offer a more secure, fixed feel — your dentist can explain both.

What to expect

Making a denture takes a few visits: impressions or scans, a try-in to check fit and appearance, and fitting the finished denture. New dentures can feel unusual at first, and it is normal to need a short adjustment period and one or two reviews to fine-tune the fit.

Caring for your dentures

• Clean them daily over a soft surface or water to avoid breakage if dropped.
• Remove them at night unless advised otherwise, and keep them moist.
• Keep up regular check-ups so the fit can be reviewed as your mouth changes over time.

How much do dentures cost in Hong Kong?

Fees depend on whether the denture is full or partial, the materials, and the number of teeth. As a general guide to the Hong Kong market, dentures range widely, from a few thousand Hong Kong dollars for a simple partial denture to HK$20,000 or more for a full or implant-supported option.
